10 Black Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas

Halloween doesn’t have to be the only time your decorations are dark-inclined. If you’re like me, you like to have creepy decorations up year round. This was the first year I had a whole apartment to myself to decorate and I went a little crazy with the “Halloween” decorations. Since it’s December now, it’s getting to the point that all my decorations are “out of season” and my landlord is consistently asking me when I’m going to take my “Halloween decorations” down. This is a lifestyle, honey. These glittery skulls and bats are gonna be up year-round.

At the beginning of November (when all the Halloween stuff is finally marked down) I finally started shopping for more Christmas inspired pieces. I didn’t have anything to start with, so I worked from the bottom up while also making sure to find the best deals. Here are a few ideas to get you going on your spooky goth holiday decorations.

1. I WISH IT WAS STILL HALLOWEEN

Truthfully, you probably already had this tree up in October and you probably keep it up year round. This is for the people who purposefully reject anything too “christmas” but love decorating. This tree would be easy to shop for if you waited until after Halloween and bought all the ornaments on sale.

2. A TREE AS BLACK AS MY SOUL

This is probably closest to my actual tree. Basic black with pre-lit lights. And black ornaments. Yes, I know you can’t see them. No, I don’t care. Black ornaments are a little harder to find, but as long as you aren’t too picky you should be able to find something.

3. BLACK WITH SILVER ACCENTS

The classic and possibly easiest way to decorate your black tree. Silver ornaments can easily be found anywhere. This makes for a classy and well put together tree that is still unique in it’s own right.

4. THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

An ode to the most popular “goth” Christmas movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas. Easily one of my personal favorite movies and easy to decorate if you’re a fanatic like me. It also looks gorgeous with purple accents.

5. BLOOD RED ACCENTS

I think this is the perfect tree for us gothic vampires out there. A black tree with red accents not only is classy but is usually a staple accent color in a gothic home anyway. Red decorations will also be easy to find as red is a popular tree decorating color.

6. DEAD JUST LIKE I AM INSIDE

Ok, so you’re into morbidity and hate Christmas (probably a lot) and that’s okay because we have a tree for you, or at least something that resembles a tree. I think this is a great idea for smaller spaces and you save a ton of money on decorations because you really don’t need many – you could probably steal a few from your parent’s house and they wouldn’t even notice.

7. OMBRE (I’M COMPROMISING)

Ok, so your significant other/parent/person/pet/friend doesn’t like the idea of having a black tree. I would typically just say get the black tree anyway – BUT, if you are sharing a space/tree here’s something a little less dark but still just as awesome. You can always compromise on the tree and go for all black ornaments which would look great on this tree.

8. BLACK AND GOLD, BLACK AND GOLD

Quite a classy combo. As someone who literally hates gold, I can’t really vouch for this tree but I think it looks nice enough. I would definitely be on the black and silver side.

9. PASTEL GOTH PINK AND BLACK TREE

Is pastel goth still a thing? I’ll admit I still have a certain affinity for pastel colors mixed with black. Well anyways, we welcome all goths here. And I think a black tree with pink ornaments looks really nice and allows you to bring in an element of femininity into your tree.

10. SIMPLE / I CAN’T MAKE UP MY MIND / I WAITED UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE

Okay so you literally waited until a few days before Christmas to get your tree – or maybe you think the tree looks fine without all the extra decorations. Either way, the easiest way to decorate your black tree is to not decorate it at all. Wow, that was easy.
